A young woman meets a dynamic young guy, but their romance is destroyed by the man’s materialistic mentality.

L’Eclisse (English: “The Eclipse”) is a 1962 Italian romantic film directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and starring Alain Delon and Monica Vitti. The plot follows a young woman (Vitti) who pursues an affair with a confident young stockbroker on-site in Rome and Verona (Delon). Antonioni drew inspiration for L’Eclisse after seeing a solar eclipse in Florence.

The film is the final installment in a trilogy that includes L’Avventura (1960) and La Notte (1961). L’Eclisse earned the Special Jury Prize and was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival. It is one of Martin Scorsese’s most praised works and has been described as the trilogy’s most daring feature.
