Commedia all’Italiana (Italian comedy) is the term used to indicate a cinematographic genre that arose in Italy during the fifties of the twentieth century and developed in the subsequent sixties and seventies. The expression was coined by paraphrasing the title of one of the greatest successes of the early years of this film genre, the film Divorzio all’italiana by director Pietro Germi.
