Monica Vitti (born Maria Luisa Ceciarelli; 3 November 1931 – 2 February 2022) was an Italian actress best remembered for her work in Michelangelo Antonioni films from the early to mid-1960s.
After working with Antonioni, Vitti shifted his concentration to comedy, collaborating on many projects with director Mario Monicelli. Her co-stars were Marcello Mastroianni, Alain Delon, Richard Harris, Terence Stamp, and Dirk Bogarde. She was dubbed the “Queen of Italian Cinema.” Vitti received five David di Donatello Awards for Best Actress, seven Italian Golden Globes, the Career Golden Globe, and the Venice Film Festival Career Golden Lion Award.
