Mediterraneo is a 1991 Italian war comedy-drama film written and directed by Gabriele Salvatores. The film takes place during World War II and follows a group of Italian troops who find stuck on a Greek island in the Aegean Sea after being abandoned by the war. In 1992, it received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
