Death in Venice (Morte a Venezia) is a 1971 Italian-French drama film directed by Luchino Visconti in Panavision and Technicolor and starring Dirk Bogarde and Björn Andrésen. It is based on German author Thomas Mann’s 1912 book Death in Venice.
Death in Venice was voted the 235th best film of all time by Sight & Sound reviewers in 2012. The film premiered in the Venice Classics section of the 75th Venice International Film Festival on September 1, 2018. On February 19, 2019, the Criterion Collection released the film on Blu-Ray in a restored version.
