Federico Fellini directed Orchestra Rehearsal (Italian: Prova d’orchestra) in 1978. It follows the musicians of an Italian orchestra as they go on strike against the conductor. At the 1979 Cannes Picture Festival, the film was exhibited outside of competition. The image has been regarded as a metaphor for Italian politics, with the orchestra fighting instead of cooperating. Orchestra Rehearsal, considered underestimated by some, was the final collaboration between composer Nino Rota and Fellini before Rota’s death in 1979.
