How Vinícius de Moraes Transformed Children’s Verses Into Cross-Cultural Music
This song was composed by Vinícius de Moraes with Italian lyrics by Sergio Bardotti, performed by Sergio Endrigo, and released in the album La vita, amico, è l’arte dell’incontro in 1969, created with de Moraes and the Italian poet Giuseppe Ungaretti, with arrangements by Luis Bacalov.
The text is a nursery rhyme and is part of a collection of poems that Vinícius de Moraes had written for his grandchildren, later published in 1970 under the title A Arca (“The Ark”). The collection of poems and songs was written by Vinícius de Moraes in collaboration with Italian authors directly in the Italian language; the Portuguese texts were published by Vinícius in 1970 in a children’s poetry book titled The Ark of Noah.
Lyrics:
Era una casa molto carina
Senza soffitto senza cucina
Senza soffitto senza cucina
Senza soffitto senza cucina
Lyrics
There was a very pretty house
Without a ceiling, without a kitchen
You couldn’t go inside
Because there was no floor
You couldn’t go to bed
In that house there was no roof
You couldn’t go pee
Because there was no potty there
But it was beautiful, truly beautiful
On Crazy Street, number zero
But it was beautiful, truly beautiful
On Crazy Street, number zero
There was a very pretty house
Without a ceiling, without a kitchen
You couldn’t go inside
Because there was no floor
You couldn’t go to bed
In that house there was no roof
You couldn’t go pee
Because there was no potty there
But it was beautiful, truly beautiful
On Crazy Street, number zero
But it was beautiful, truly beautiful
On Crazy Street, number zero
There was a very pretty house
Without a ceiling, without a kitchen
You couldn’t go inside
Because there was no floor
You couldn’t go to bed, in that house there was no roof
You couldn’t go pee
Because there was no potty there
But it was beautiful, truly beautiful
On Crazy Street, number zero
But it was beautiful, truly beautiful
On Crazy Street, number zero
