Bruno Lauzi’s 1976 Album Features Johnny il Bassotto and Lino Toffolo Collaborations
This song comes from the fifteenth album by Bruno Lauzi, released in 1976. It includes two tracks sung by Lino Toffolo in the single Johnny Bassotto/I bambini d’Italia from the same year, and La tartaruga, already known to the public as the theme song of the TV program Anteprima di Un colpo di fortuna.
The album was produced by Pippo Caruso, who also took care of the arrangements, and recorded at the Regson studio in Milan. For the original vinyl edition, the cover was created by Studio Bozzetto, while the back featured a presentation of the record written by Bruno Lauzi himself.
In 2000, RCA reissued the album on CD. The single La tartaruga had already been released in 1975 (Numero Uno, ZN 50343), with the song of the same name on side A and Al pranzo di gala di Babbo Natale on the B-side.
Altan illustrated the song in a book with a CD of the same title (Johnny il bassotto, Gallucci, 2007).
Lyrics
A quell’ora vado sempre a far pipì
Ma il bassotto poliziotto scoprirà la verità
Il bassotto poliziotto scoprirà la verità
Che poliziotto, Johnny bassotto
Come una freccia nella notte schizza via
Passa dal tetto, entra nel letto
Di ogni bimbo che racconta una bugia
Che poliziotto, Johnny bassotto
Con le manette arresta la tua fantasia
Ti fa svegliare e confessare
Ti fa svegliare e confessare
Lyrics
Who stole the jam? (Who could it be?)
And a chocolate egg? (Who could it be?)
And who broke the window
with a kick of the ball?
Who heated up the cassata with the hair dryer?
It wasn’t me, I wasn’t there, I’ve never even come here,
At that time I always go to pee!
But the dachshund policeman will find out the truth,
The dachshund policeman will find out the truth.
What a policeman, Johnny the dachshund,
Like an arrow in the night he darts away.
He runs across the roof, slips into the bed
Of every child who tells a lie.
What a policeman, Johnny the dachshund,
With his handcuffs he arrests your fantasy.
He wakes you up and makes you confess
Everything you did, alone or with company.
The dachshund policeman is the smartest there is.
Who touched the tape recorder? (Who could it be?)
Who played on the elevator? (Who could it be?)
Who tied daddy’s tie to a balloon,
And now it flies above the whole city?
Really, it wasn’t me, don’t interrogate me anymore,
At this hour I’m always watching TV.
But the dachshund policeman will find out the truth,
The dachshund policeman will find out the truth.
What a policeman, Johnny the dachshund,
He’s got a parrot that acts as his spy radio,
And an elephant as his assistant,
When the lie is really way too big.
What a policeman, Johnny the dachshund,
With his whistle he arrests your fantasy.
He wakes you up and makes you confess
Everything you did, alone or with company.
The dachshund policeman is the smartest there is.
The dachshund policeman is the smartest there is.
