Evander

Evander was the son of the god Mercury and the nymph Carmenta.

Greek culture hero Evander is credited for bringing the Greek pantheon, laws, and alphabet to Italy. On the future Palatine Hill in Rome, he created the city of Pallantium sixty years before the Trojan War. He established the Lupercalia feast. After Evander passed away, an altar was built on the Aventine Hill in his honor.
