A children’s competition entry mixed comedy with genuine environmental concern in late 1990s Italy
Ylenia Recchia, in the 40th edition of the Zecchino d’Oro in 1997, introduced this witty ecological suggestion. The protagonist of this song is a very special camel: it has no engine, but it can go 30 km on a liter of orange soda; it’s catalytic and eco-friendly.
It is fast, tall, and slim, and it runs on solar energy. It has a warning light that turns on when there’s too much smog, when the sun rises it fills up with joy, and its humps work as a double airbag. The Katalicammello is a friend of the environment, fully equipped against pollution. Too bad! For now, Katalì is just a refrain, but the dream is to grow up and have it patented.
