Lucio Dalla’s Attenti al Lupo Became Italy’s Fourth Bestselling Single of 1991
This song, produced and arranged by Mauro Malavasi, was written by Ron and sung by Lucio Dalla in 1990. It is included in the album Cambio. The track was first presented on the TV show Fantastico 90, hosted by Pippo Baudo. It entered the charts at 10th place on November 17, 1990, and later climbed to number one, staying on the charts until March 30, 1991. By the end of the year, it ranked as the fourth best-selling single in Italy. On YouTube, it has reached 24 million views.
The music video for the song is set in a circus, where the singer-songwriter is accompanied by two women (backing vocalists Iskra Menarini and Carolina Balboni) and Robert Sidoli on electric guitar.
There are numerous covers of the song. In 1992, Federico Salvatore performed a parody of the track for the album Cabarettombola. In 1997, the group Le Figlie del Vento released Il meglio, which included a cover version of the song. In 2022, singer Cristina D’Avena featuring the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano released their own cover in the compilation 40 – Il sogno continua. Iskra Menarini, one of Dalla’s backing singers, also recorded her own version, included in the album Lucio dove vai? Io sono qui! – Iskra canta Lucio Dalla, as a tribute to the artist.
