Pietro Germi (14 September 1914 – 5 December 1974) was an Italian cinema director, screenwriter, and actor who is best known for pioneering the neorealist and commedia all’Italiana genres.
At the 35th Academy Awards, his 1961 film Divorce Italian Style got him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and a nomination for Best Director. At the Cannes Film Festival, seven of his films participated, with his 1966 comedy The Birds, the Bees, and the Italians winning the Palme d’Or.
