Matteo Garrone (born October 15, 1968) is an Italian film director. Born in Rome, the son of a theatrical critic, Nico Garrone, and a photographer, Garrone received the Sacher d’Oro, an award sponsored by Nanni Moretti, in 1996 with the short film Silhouette, which became one of three episodes of his debut long feature, Terra di Mezzo, released in 1997.
