Variety Lights is a 1951 Italian romantic drama film directed and produced by Federico Fellini and starring Peppino De Filippo, Carla Del Poggio, and Giulietta Masina.
The story revolves around a gorgeous but ambitious young woman who joins a touring band of third-rate vaudevillians and unintentionally provokes envy and emotional turmoil. Variety Lights, Fellini’s first feature film, was co-produced, directed, and written by Alberto Lattuada. Fellini had previously worked largely as a screenwriter, most notably on Roberto Rossellini’s Rome, Open City.
