The Conformist (Il conformista) is a 1970 political drama film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, based on Alberto Moravia‘s 1951 novel The Conformist.
Jean-Louis Trintignant, Stefania Sandrelli, Gastone Moschin, Enzo Tarascio, Fosco Giachetti, José Quaglio, Dominique Sanda, and Pierre Clémenti feature in the film. The film was a collaboration between Italian, French, and West German production firms. Bertolucci employs 1930s art and design associated with the Fascist era: middle-class drawing rooms and vast ruling-elite halls.
