The term “Moneta” was used to refer to two different goddesses in Roman mythology: Juno Moneta and the goddess of memory, who was named after the Greek goddess Mnemosyne.
Numerous terms in English and Romance languages, such as “money” and “mint,” are derived from the latter’s name. The Greek religion, which included the worship of Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory and mother of the Muses, had a significant effect on the development of the cult of the goddess Moneta. Name of the goddess is taken from the Latin monere (which means to remind, warn, or instruct). As the guardian of money, Juno Moneta (a Juno epithet), money was minted at her temple in ancient Rome.
