‘Ndrangheta-linked ex-Lombardy official turns self in

(ANSA) – MILAN, MAR 11 – A former Lombardy regional
councillor turned himself in at Milan’s Opera Prison on Thursday
after getting a definitive seven-and-a-half-year sentence for
the infiltration of the Calabria-based ‘Ndrangheta mafia in the
northern region, and for vote buying.
Domenico Zambetti, 68, said he saw the verdict handed down on
him by the supreme Court of Cassation on Tuesday as an “absurdity”.
His lawyer filed a motion for house arrest due to health reasons
but the prosecutor in the case objected.
A surveillance court must now decide. (ANSA).
