Couple get 30 yrs for farm blast that killed 3 firemen

(ANSA) – ALESSANDRIA, FEB 8 – An Italian couple got 30 years
in jail Monday for a blast in their farmhouse that killed three
firemen near Alessandria in Piedmont on the night of November
4-5 2019.
The blast took place at Quargnento.
Giovanni Vincenti and his wife Antonella Patrucco were found
guilty of multiple aggravated homicide.
Victims’ families had campaigned for life imprisonment for the
couple.
Vincenti set fire to his farm building, leading to the explosion
that killed the three firemen, in order to get the insurance
money, he later confessed to police.
There was supposed to be only an initial explosion to burn down
the building, he told police, but an error in the timer set off
five gas canisters after the firemen had arrived and were trying
to douse the blaze.
Prosecutors argued that Vicenti’s action “intended to kill”, a
contention that the court upheld.
The three firefighers who died were Antonio Candido, Marco
Triches and
Matteo Gastaldo. (ANSA).
